Rosa E. Vega

Rosa Elia Vega, age 67, of East Chicago, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2020, at Munster Community Hospital. Rosa is survived by her three sisters: Virginia, Alicia and Tina Vega; one brother, Domingo Vega; Adoptive sons: Aaron and Michael Vega; two grandchildren: Aaron, Jr. and Barbara; special niece Adrianna and many other nieces, nephews, relatives throughout the Calumet area, Texas and Mexico and Special Friends. Preceded in passing by her parents, Domingo & Maria Vega; sisters: Alicia Barbara, Dominga, Maria and Grace and brother Jesus.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Croatian Church, 4754 Carey Street, East Chicago, Indiana with Father Terry J. Steffens officiating. At Rest Ridgelawn-Mt Mercy Cemetery, Gary, Indiana. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, January 28, from 4:00-8:00 pm at Oleska-Pastrick Fineral Home, 3934 Elm Street, East Chicago, Indiana. Rosary Service will be held at 4:00 PM. Friends may also visit at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass.

Rosa was a retired employee of the Gary Community School Corp. with over 40 years of service. She was a Member of SEIU Local 73 of which she was an organizer and a fierce longtime fighter for labor rights. She also spent many years as a Troop Leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

Rosa spent her entire life in service of others. She always put those close to her first. Despite her small stature, she remained a strong presence. She was smart, capable, loyal, strong and tough. She was fearless in life and believed discipline and integrity were paramount. She expected the most from those she loved the most. And you always knew where you stood with her. The more that she demanded of you, the more she loved you. She was the foundation of her remaining family. She always cared for her loving sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends alike. She will never be replaced and will always be missed.
