Ophelia Gill Vela

Ophelia Gill Vela, age 91, passed away at her home  in East Chicago, Indiana. Survived by her three sons: Leo (Irma) Vela, Robert Vela (Carol Yeager) and Paul Vela; daughter-in-law: Margie Vela; many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; many brothers and sisters-in law and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Preceded in passing by her parents, Angel and Ruperta Gill; beloved husband, Anicasio "Nico" Vela; sisters: Evelyn, Victoria, Arlene, Hope and Carmen and brothers: Sammy, Robert and Angel Gill.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Oleska-Pastrick Funeral Home, 3934 Elm Street, East Chicago, Indiana. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00a.m. until time of Service. Burial Services will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond, Indiana.

Ophelia was a longtime resident of East Chicago, Indiana and longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. For many years, She was proud to serve the  Gary Diocese Catholic Charities as a Senior Companion visiting the disabled and the elderly. Ophie, as she was called by many family and friends was proud of her family and being a Mom taking care of her home and family. Always with a smile and always happy to be with friends and family. She was a longtime employee of the South Shore Country Club and the former Puntillo's Restaurant in East Chicago. Ophelia will be missed mostly for the smiles and happiness she brought onto others, her hard work  and her willingness to help others. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and many friends.
