Mary was very proud of her Slovak heritage and was well known throughout the Slovak community. And she was well known throughout the Region for all the good works that she and husband George did for many years for many organizations. She was very active and became a longtime officer with the Zenska Jednota ( Slovak Organization) Her Husband George was very involved with the East Chicago Knights of Columbus Msgr. Connelly Council No. 1700 Lodge and Mary was right by his side, helping with all the paperwork and anything else she could do to help George in his many offices held with the lodge. Helping George was not enough, she became very active with the Women's Club of the K of C and would later become President. Mary and George were also active with the Independent Order of Foresters serving as officer's and traveled to many destinations for important meetings and conferences. Mary was also active with the BNI Women's Club during and after the time that her children attended school and graduated. Mary and George loved the St Anthony Village Community. They were very comfortable with the staff and residents throughout their many years living at St Anthony. She was great at telling jokes, had a great sense of humor and loved to sing her favorite song "Bushel And-A-Peck." Mary was also a longtime, active member of Assumption of BVM Catholic Church in Indiana Harbor. She was also on the Church Council and Rosary Society throughout the many years as a member.
