Henry A. "Hank" Lopez, age 88, lifelong resident of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday evening, December 10, 2019. Devoted and loving husband of the late Emma Lopez (nee Flores), father of one child; Great Papa Hank had 10 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Paul & Phillip Lopez; 4 sisters: Gloria Justiano, Alice Louise Lopez, Margaret Roque & Sandra Lopez; cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews and a host of many relatives and friends. Henry was preceded in passing by 3 children; 2 grandchildren; and 8 brothers and sisters.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, Indiana with Father Carlos Sosa, A.I.C., officiating. Burial services will follow at Ridgelawn-Mt Mercy Cemetery, Gary, Indiana. Friends may visit with the family directly at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Hank was a retired Steelworker of Inland Steel Company with 35 years of dedicated service. He was a proud union member of United Steelworkers Local 1010. Proud U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War and member of the Griffith VFW 9982. Henry was a former member of the former St John Cantius Church, East Chicago. Following the closing of St John Cantius Church, Henry attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and many other churches throughout the area. Henry loved providing for his family. He was a hard worker and a man of great faith. He was a true gentleman whose integrity and kindness will live on in the memories of all who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and many friends.
