Ramon "Monche" Ruiz, age 94, of East Chicago, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at St Catherine Hospital, East Chicago, Indiana. Survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Maria (nee Martinez), loving father of four daughters: Tilda (Carmelo, Sr.) Gonzalez, Dolores (Gil) Peral, Maria (Russell) Breger & Theresa Ruiz (Alan) Cox; four sons: Jesse (Blanca) Ruiz, Angel (Marsha) Ruiz, Antonio (Maria) Ruiz & Luis (Marie) Ruiz; daughter-in-law, Janie Ruiz; twenty four grandchildren: Angie, Denise, Art, Ray J., Rachel, Anthony, Diana, April, Tonio, Carmen O., Angel, Becca, Christopher, Lisa, Susan, J.R., Alex, Louie, Amanda, Vanessa, Jessica, Cristina, late C.J. & late Tony; many great grandchildren; brother, "LoLo" (Juana) Ruiz & sister, Tilda Ruiz of the Calumet Area and many brothers & sisters of Puerto Rico; many nieces, nephews, family & friends. Preceded in passing by son, Ramon Ruiz, Jr.; daughter, Carmen Diaz; grandsons, Carmelo, Jr. "C.J." & Tony.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago, Indiana with Father Carlos Martinez, A.I.C. officiating. Interment to follow at St John-St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana. Visitation for friends and family will be held directly at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Donations in Ramon's memory may be made to his family.

Mr. Ruiz was a retired Steelworker for Inland Steel Company and member of USW Union Local 1010. He was a longtime member & Eucharistic Minister of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, East Chicago, Indiana. When "Monche" wasn't working, he enjoyed playing his guitar and cuatro. He also enjoyed cooking and working in his vegetable garden, but his true joy was spending time with his family. His integrity and kindness will live on in the memories of all his loving family and friends.
