MIGUEL A. " MIKE " MALAVE, age 83 of East Chicago, Indiana passed away, Monday, February 11, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mike is survived by his loving wife,Aida (Diaz); Stepdaughters: Jenny, Edna, DeeDee & Evelyn Diaz; 7 step grandchildren & 5 step great grandchildren; daughters: Evelyn Malave, Rose Collazo & Laura Ochoa; sons: Michael (Peggy) Malave & Charlie (Sonja) Scherer; grandchildren: Miguel, Desiree, George & Sammy; great grandchildren: Emily, George, Jordan, Julissa, Amelia, Dominic & Angel; sisters: Salome Banks, Ramona (Don) Biddings & Maria Malave; brothers: Nephtali Malave, Monserrate Malave & Elias (Jenny) Malave; and many nieces, nephews, family & friends. Preceded in passing by his parents, Monserrate & Ramona Malave; daughter, Felecia Malave; brother, Chan Malave & sister, Loyda Alamillo.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oleska-Pastrick Funeral Home, 3934 Elm Street, East Chicago, Indiana with Deacon Jose Vega, officiating. Burial will follow at St John-St Joseph Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana with Military Honors by American Legion Post 369 & Post 508. Friends may visit with the family at the Funeral Home on Friday, February 15 from 4:00-8:00 PM., Prayer Service at 5:00 PM.
Mike was born on April 9, 1935 in Cayey, Puerto Rico to Ramona & Monserrate Malave and was the oldest of 9 children. He moved to East Chicago at the age of 17. He was a proud US Army Veteran and served his Country for 4 years. Mike worked for LTV Steel Company and retired with over 40 years of service. He was very talented and would help anyone in need, he was known by many as "The Best Handyman in Town." Mike enjoyed bicycle riding and had a love for music, especially from his beloved Island. He also loved to dance and spend time with his family and friends. He was an avid sports fan and was a true fan of the Chicago White Sox. He was a true Gentleman whose integrity and kindness will live on in the memories of all who knew and loved him.
